Oh Why Treasure Trove
How many times have you run into this situation? You turn on your PC, excited to finally sit down after a long day of adult responsibility and play some games. Logging into Steam you are bombarded with a never-ending list of games in your library. Some have been beaten. Others were purchased with grand aspirations to enjoy and yet they sit with a “0 minutes played” tag beside them.
We’ve all been there. Some nights it becomes so overwhelming you end up scrolling for 20 minutes back and forth between your Steam library and social media, then choosing to rewatch Brooklyn 99 for the 99th time (looking at you Kyle).
I created the Treasure Trove as a way to get out of this funk. I’ve been known to be a “variety gamer”. Don’t get me wrong; I love the triple A games as much as the next person, but a lot of them don’t get a second thought once the credits roll. I found myself going back again and again to smaller indie titles to enjoy, sometimes even years after I thought I was finished with them. This is the secret power of “The Trove”. It pulls me back in on games that sometimes didn’t quite hit the first time, but creating this list added clarity and focus.
Games like Enter the Gungeon, Battle Shapers, Cassette Beasts, and Young Souls. If any of those games sound like made up words to you please, go check them out right now. I’ll wait…
Ok you’re back? Great! I created this segment for the podcast mainly as a way to create content for episodes to break up the core format. What ended up happening years later is I’ve truly opened my eyes to the beauty that is the gaming industry. And it’s not Madden 26 or Call of Duty 74. Highlighting games that didn’t have the major marketing budgets of triple A studios, or unfortunately launched in the same year as some of the best bangers of an entire console generation (looking at you Mad Max).
Whether you are looking for an action brawler like Young Souls (fully co-op btw), or something more narratively gripping like “Bramble the Mountain King” there are SO many amazing options out there that are worth your time. Let me be that shepherd to steer you in the right direction. The entire Good Enough Gaming crew has some absolute GEMS that could make the Treasure Trove so don’t hesitate to ask them their thoughts.
My goal is to create a comprehensive review list of all of the Treasure Trove games for your enjoyment. Having someone mention to me they tried a recent Treasure Trove game and loved it is the sort of jacked up feeling I’ll take any day. But more so, it’s to reduce the external noise of those gigantic gaming backlogs so you can try something new.
So I guess my suggestion is this - that game you have in your wishlist for $5 that looks really cool, has great reviews, but maybe wasn’t listed on IGN as a game of the year candidate…give it a try. It may just surprise you.
